Chapter 2
I froze. But seconds after, I heard the voice laughing. I turned around and much to my surprise, it wasn't anyone harmful. It was my best friend – Julia. I wasn't scared anymore.
“I scared you huh?” she asked naughtily.
“Yeah, I guess.” I admitted.
“So what are you doing here, its getting late.” She demanded. It’s true, it is getting late. And I still haven’t thought of a way to get home yet.
“I am waiting for my mum to pick me up because I’ve lost my bus card. And she’s not here.” I said uneasily.
“Isn’t she hanging out in the movies with my mum?” said Julia uncertainly.
My mum and Julia’s mum- Mary were friends ever since they were little so I wasn't surprised about them going to the movies. But what about the things that woman said on the phone about my mum packing up to fly away? Maybe that woman is lying because she would love it if mommy flies away so that's why she is saying it.
“Yeah maybe you’re right.” I agreed “But how will I get home?”
“You can come to my house and after my mum returns from the movies then she can give you a lift to your house.” Julia suggested.
“Good idea.” I remarked.
We walked to her house which took just ten minutes. I stepped inside her house, and we entered her room.
“Wow, nice room you’ve got!” I admired. Her room was painted with pink hearts and obviously the background was girl power with is my favorite.
“Thanks, guess who painted them.” She said proudly as she hand me a stool to sit on.
“I bet it’s your dad.” I said breezily. Julia was staring at the carpet without saying a word, she turned pale.
“Julia, did I say something wrong?” I demanded.
I just couldn’t ignore the sour look on her face. She didn’t answer me. OH! Now I know why she was sad! It’s because I said that her dad must have painted the hearts but her dad died in a car crush when she was four. I could imagine her living eight years without her dad being around.
I personally don’t like my dad because he goes out with his other girlfriends when he is married to my mum- Cencila. He doesn't care what my mum or I think. He wants a divorce but my mum doesn't agree for one. I asked her once why not and she said that if she divorce David then David will be happy which is the last thing Cencila wanted because she wants revenge- revenge for how David treated her for the past few years.
And now I am pretty shocked that the woman on the phone said that my mum is packing up to fly away because I know the kind of person like my mum would never give up on a thing like that. My mum has a strong personality. She has always taught me to fight for my own rights and how to defend myself in the real world when I grow up, she want me to be strong and that's how I am right now. One of the reasons why I am best friends with Julia is that we understand each other. Neither of us had a very good childhood. Julia’s dad died and my dad---- you know what I am going to say don't you? And the reason why my mum and Julia’s mum are best friends is because they also understand each other. Mary’s husband died as you know and Cencila’s husband cheats on her.
“I am sorry, I forgot that your dad is ….” I apologized to Julia.
“It’s ok, you didn't mean to say it.” said Julia weakly.
Then I heard the door lock turning and seconds after Mary stepped in the house. I ran downstairs to plead her for a lift to my house. But what I saw wasn't the normal Mary. I saw Mary standing in front of the door way, as pale as can be.
