Editor's Note: Jason Williams, or Jay Williams, who graduated in just three years from Duke University, took part in the 2002 NBA Draft1 and was selected by Chicago with the No. 2 pick. Starting every game (108) in his three seasons at Duke, he assisted the Blue Devils2 to a 95-13 record, while winning or sharing two Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)3 regular season titles and claiming three ACC Tournament championships. Additionally, Duke got the 2001 NCAA4 championship when Jay was a second year student. He is now a point guard for the Chicago Bulls5.
In this issue, we present some of his diaries and some questions asked of him by reporters and his answers. From these diaries and the interview we will catch a glimpse6 of this new star of the NBA.

Duke University Graduation
In 2001, I considered leaving Duke to enter the NBA when I was a second year student. But I stayed in school, took summer classes, and graduated in three years with a degree in sociology. After I made the decision to stay in school, I really put all my attention and effort into the year ahead. If you have to make a decision, you make it, stick with7 it, and follow through.
It was great that I was graduating, but I was a little sad that I wasn't graduating with all the friends I came into college with. I kind of8 wanted them to be around to share that moment.

NBA Draft
Crazy. That's the only way to describe the NBA draft. You don't know what's going to happen.
The draft was just a process of waiting. You have to wait and hear everybody else talk about you. You didn't know where you were going. You really have no control over it at all. You're just like a piece of meat that's waiting to be packaged to go somewhere.
Once draft night happened, I was extremely happy it was over. I was also very happy that I got a chance to go to a city and team where I really wanted to go—Chicago.

Pre-season Starts
Pre-season gets pretty crazy. You have four games in six nights sometimes. You forget about the days and the time. When practice is over, a lot of guys are tired and go home and sleep. The practices are intense and long. In college, you probably go for an hour and a half. Here, we're going for two and a half or three hours. Hopefully, that'll start to bite down9 a little as the season goes on.
