Q: When did you first become interested in tennis?
A: I started around six. My parents started playing social tennis at a local tennis club and as soon as I was out there I just wanted to hit some balls.
Q: What was your most important victory?
A: It's hard, but I think the Kafelnikov21 match at the Davis Cup in 1999, and the result put us in the Davis Cup final.
Q: What special steps do you take to mentally prepare for a big match?
A: I just try and stay relaxed and keep to myself for a couple of hours before the match. I also listen to motivational22 music.
Q: How do you cope with defeat?
A: I try to take the positives23 out of that match.
Q: What other sports are you interested in ?A: Football. In fact, before I became a professional tennis player, I played football as well as tennis.
Q: Do you have any special training techniques?
A: I have spent hours running the sand dunes24 near the beaches in my hometown to improve my stamina25.
Q: Do you have any special habits before, during or after a match?
A: A lot of the guys say that I don't wash my hat that often. I like wearing my favorite baseball hats, I wash them now and then. I could probably wash them a little more often.
Q: Why do you love tennis?
A: You are the center of attention out there, and it's like you are putting on a bit of a show for the crowd ...and it's an unbelievable feeling to have a big win.
Q: Hobbies?
A: I go to the movies. I play cards on the internet. I also spend a lot of time on the internet chatting to my mates back home in Australia.
Q: If you weren't a tennis player, what would you be?
A: I would have tried to play Australian Rules Football.
Q: How do you deal with popularity?
A: If you're trying to be at the top of your sport, it's part of being a professional athlete. You've got to give up time to sign autographs and take photos. It does get very hectic26 when you are walking around the streets and people want your autograph, or photo.
Q: What do you like least about being a tennis player?
A: You're under a lot of pressure all the time and always in the public eye.
Q: What do you plan to do after tennis?
A: My biggest dream is to be as successful as possible, whatever I am doing.

答:我可能去踢澳式橄榄球。
问:你如何看待名气?
答:如果你想成为出类拔萃的职业运动员,那么名气就是你生活中的一部分了。你就得牺牲你的时间来签名、拍照。你走在大街上,有人过来索要你的签名或照片,那的确让你手忙脚乱。
问:当一个网球运动员,你最不喜欢的是什么?
答:时刻都要面对压力,公众总在注意着你。
问:从网坛退役后,你打算干什么?
答:我最大的愿望是,不管干什么都要努力去取得成功。
