While it's easy to see singers like the N'SYNC and Britney seem to catch the eye of the world, there are some younger artists that are becoming successful in their own way in the competitive world of pop. Of all the young performers that have made their way successfully in the new century, Mandy Moore might be the most promising, and versatile1 of them all. She has the talent in music to entertain2  and explore3, and she's only getting started. She has the looks of a model while she's only sixteen years old, and the pose4 of a veteran5 when she acts as the master of ceremonies6 for an event. And now she has a booming7 career in acting, completing her first major motion picture8 and already working on a second, she has the heads in Hollywood turning9, and is the topic of many conversations among movie executives10 looking for a fresh new talent to lead the way in the years to come.
　　Mandy has been one of the busiest young stars over the last year, and things don't seem to be slowing down. For anyone else we might be worried, but this young girl does her job in a well organized way. Mandy recently finished filming on her new movie, Princess Diaries, which should be out later this year, and is presently working on a film called A Walk to Remember, directed by Adam Shankman. This will be the actress's first starring role in a major motion picture.
　　One might think with all the work that Mandy is putting into acting and TV that she is likely to let her singing career slip11, but of the new release, “In My Pocket” has been one of the hottest songs on the Billboard charts since its release. Nothing new for Mandy, who blew away13 critics with her last two CD's, both of which were platinum14 in 2000.
　　Mandy made a big step towards displaying her talents more completely by co-writing two tracks15 for her new album, and bringing in live16 musicians to record alongside of her in the studio. She's pointing the way for young artists making pop music for the masses, and showing that she is willing and able to produce music that continues to excite her growing number of fans.
　　Rumors have been circulating17 that Mandy could be a major player as a support act for one of the big late summer tours. But, more likely it will be a smaller and more intimate18 solo19 tour which would better suit the soulful20 singer. Mandy told fans, “I hope to go on a smaller but real tour by myself with a band and dancers before the new album comes out.” She's had her most success performing live on radio tours which allow her to shine as a single entity21.

Q:What is it like to perform in your hometown?
   在家乡演唱是什么样的感觉？
M(short for Mandy): A lot more nerve-wracking1. It's a lot more like spending time trying to perfect everything because it's like—this is where I grew up, this is where I still live. This is where all of my friends are going to be watching me perform, so it's kind of like you want to do your best and it's definitely the most scaring.

 

Q: What do you like to do when you＇re at home?

M: I like to hang out with my friend as much as I can. Drive—practicing with my parents. Sleep. I haven't had much sleep lately. Oh, I love doing that—I know I get to do that.

Q: What is the best beauty advice you have ever received?

M: Less is more. I'm such a believer in that. I think makeup and beauty, it's supposed to enhance2 what you already have—not try and cover it up.

Q: Do fans ever show up at your house or do anything strange to try and meet you?

M: No. Sometimes late at night my dad—you know because he is the one that is usually home because my mom travels with me on the road—he says he hears cars pull up in the driveway and stuff like that. And loud music like late at night.

M:Yes and no. I feel like I can judge people's characters well. I'm a good judge of character.

Q: Has being a celebrity3 changed you?

M: I don't consider myself a celebrity. So no it hasn't changed me—I  feel like the same person I was a year ago. People still treat me the same—my friends and my family and everything.

Q: What are your future plans?

M: Oh my gosh. Just to do this. To do this as long as there is an audience out there for me.

Q: So if you could interview one person, who would it be?

M: Oh my gosh, I don't know. I would have to research on the internet and find the weirdest4 probably the most never asked questions. You know, I'm sure she's heard everything because she's Madonna, but still she would be a challenge to interview because she always has some comeback5 and she has an answer for every question. That's why I'd like to interview her.

Q: What kind of message do you try to convey6 to your fans?

M: To be themselves. I think that's the biggest thing—I mean it's the most important thing because there are always going to be people out there who don't like you for some reason or look at you different for some reason. You don't think you can do something for some reason, but I think if you have the confidence7 and the willingness8 to make sacrifices9 you can succeed. And there's no way that people can consider you different—you're who you are, and that's cool—embrace10 that.
