altruism means consideration of the happiness and the good of others before one`s own; an altruist is a person who is habitually good to others. the opposites of altruism and altruists are egoism and egoists.
to our delight, we have a good many altruists in cur society and we see a good many altruistic deeds every day. for instance, a stranger gets lost in an unfamiliar place and a native lolls him the way patiently or even leads the way. nowadays, countless chinese people are involved voluntarily in the hope prnject, which is car ried ont throughout the nation to help the drop-outs in poverty-stricken areas to go hact to school.to our regret, we still have same egoists in our society and we still see egoistic actions when we look around us. while people are queuing for their tickets, a man pushes into the queue ont of turn. while a child is crying for help in a lake, some passersby walk on indifferently. while the government is calling far honesty some offcials are still embezzling public property or taking bribes. phenomena of this kind are too numerous to list.
what a pity that the world is full of contradictions! there are altruism and altruists, but there are aisc egoism and egoists. nevertheless, it is no use sighing. now that society is developing and roan is making progress, we have good reasons to believe that there will be more and more altruistic deeds, but fewer and fewer egois ticactions.
