随爸爸临时搬到好莱坞住的小侦探，凭着智慧和勇气破解了一件困扰了人们25年的大案……
Nancy Drew（南茜·朱尔）——女高中生，喜欢穿浅口鞋，随身百宝箱装满了一般侦探的必备工具。
Carson Drew（卡森·朱尔）——南茜的爸爸，妻子死后一人把南茜带大。因工作关系要带南茜搬去好莱坞暂住。
Ned（奈德）——和南茜一起长大的好朋友。
Corky（科尔奇）——12岁的小男孩，南茜的同学，很崇拜南茜。
Leshing（莱星）——曾是离奇死亡的女明星蒂莉娅的电影放映员，现为南茜租住别墅的管理员。
1南茜经历了一番风险后终于从教堂屋顶上平安落地。
Dad: Are you okay?
Nancy: I’m fine, Dad. Really. In the sleuthing1 business, this kind of thing happens all the time. It really isn’t a big deal.
Dad: It is a big deal! I want you to promise no more sleuthing, at least while we’re in California. You’ll go to school, shopping, spend some time with teenagers. It’s what you’re supposed to be doing. Give it a try.
爸爸：你没事吧？

Nancy: I needed a new compass. The old one’s wobbly3. Thank you. I just don’t know if I’ll get to use it.
Ned: Why?
Nancy: My dad let me choose the house we’re gonna live in, so I chose one with...
Ned: With a mystery.
Nancy: But not just any mystery. One of the greatest unsolved cases of all time. Dehlia Draycott. The movie actress. Before your time4. Twenty-five year ago... at the height of her fame, she disappeared for five months. Nobody knew where. And when she came back, she threw a giant party. She never went downstairs to greet her guests. She was found floating in the pool. Dead.
Ned: Gee5, that sounds like fun.
Nancy: But I didn’t tell my dad about the house and he’s not letting me do any sleuthing.

南茜：但是我没告诉爸爸关于这幢房子的事，而且他说再不让我做侦探了。
3搬到加州后南茜曾想换掉房子，把案子交给警察，努力和新同学相处，但都没成功。她只好继续探案来打发闲暇。南茜不小心误入蒂莉娅的影片放映室，发现莱星和蒂莉娅是故交……
Leshing: I haven’t been here since the night she...
Nancy: You were here the night she died? How long did you work for her?
Leshing: (the) Year I got out of the service6, I went to work at the studio. They sent me over here to project a film for her... and she asked me to stay and take care of her, so I did. That was 1971.
Nancy: When she disappeared, did you know where she was?
Leshing: No.
Nancy: She never married and she seemed to be very private... but there must have been a man... Someone she loved?
Leshing: Every man who met her fell in love with her. I just don’t know if she ever felt love herself.

Nancy: I only recently discovered that movies
aren’t shot from beginning to end. So I took the last movie she ever made... and reassembled7 the shots in the order they were photographed. I just noticed something strange. The last month before she disappeared, she’s only shown from here up. Maybe she was pregnant.
Corky: She didn’t have any kids. Never married and no kids.
Nancy：It’s just a hunch8. Also, the photograph in this magazine is dated just after her reappearance. There’s an X on her robe. I believe that insignia9 will tell us where she was hiding.

Hospital corpsman10: All the children born in one week 24 years ago?
Nancy: Yes. Well, all the ones given up for adoption. The birth mother, she may have left money for the child...
Hospital corpsman: I’m sorry, but those records are sealed. Only a court order can open those records. But come here. The county recommends a pediatrician11 to new adoptive12 parents. The doctor’s files aren’t sealed. This might help.
医护人员：所有24年前那一周出生的孩子的资料？
南茜：是的。嗯，所有父母放弃了抚养权的孩子。那个生母，她可能给孩子留下了一笔钱……

6南茜按照名单线索挨个走访，终于找到蒂莉娅的亲生女儿珍妮。但随之而来的车祸、恐吓、爆炸步步紧逼南茜，连珍妮也受到威胁。
Nancy：Jean, are you all right?
Jean：No. Child Protective Services, they...They took my daughter, Allie. They said I was an unfit parent, but it isn’t true. I didn’t do any of the things that they said.
Jean：Listen, I have to tell you something. Right after you first found me, someone came to my apartment. A man. He said if I ever tried to prove that I was Dehlia’s daughter, that I would regret it. That’s why I was afraid to talk to you that time.
Nancy: What did he look like?
Jean: He was big. Dark hair. Scary. And he had one pale blue eye and one very, very dark.
南茜：珍妮，你还好么？
珍妮：糟透了。儿童保护部门，他们… 他们带走了我的女儿艾莉。他们说我是个不称职的家长，那不是真的。我根本没做过他们说的那些事。

7通过珍妮提供的线索，机警的南茜终于发现蒂莉娅惨剧幕后黑手就是她的经纪人——彼得麦尔，而莱星则是珍妮的爸爸。
Nancy：Why did you kill Dehlia?
Biedermeyer: After she gave up the baby, she went kind of crazy. She was gonna quit the business and run off with that caretaker13.
Nancy: He was the father!
Biedermeyer: Whatever. She was my only client. She was gonna fire me. I spent 20 years of my life building up her career. I got mad. I reacted violently. I felt kind of bad about it for a while, but I’m okay with it now.
Nancy：Leshing is Jean’s father.
南茜：你为什么要杀死蒂莉娅？
彼得麦尔：她把孩子送人之后就变得疯疯癫癫，她想退出影坛和看门人一起私奔。
