Episode III finally reveals why hero Anakin Skywalker becomes baddie Darth Vader. (Let's just say it involves a volcano6.) But how did monster maker Dave Elsey turn actor Hayden Christensen's face into a nightmare? The actor sat for two and a half hours while makeup artists painted on his “burned” head using a spongy foam latex7. Real hair was inserted into the latex skull and then singed8 off for a burned look. Ugly false teeth and black gums added to the creepy9 look. No wonder Darth Vader hides behind a mask!
Missing from the last two Star Wars movies, the Wookiees make a comeback in Revenge of the Sith. Most are bigger and meaner than the lovable Chewbacca—and their costumes look the part10.
Before putting on the hand-stitched Wookiee outfit11, each actor straps on12 a muscle suit (see the picture). The suits are complete with fluid-filled sacks that move naturally with the actor's real muscles. Under the muscle suits, actors wear “cool vests,” sort of a mini air-conditioning system that pumps13 ice-cold water through tubes. “Imagine wearing a big padded fur suit in the middle of summer,” Elsey says, “That's how hot it gets in those suits.”
Tion Medon

Even though Tion Medon helps Obi-Wan Kenobi, he seems pretty creepy. Tion Medon's scary look starts with his mask. First the actor's head is covered in a molding14 material similar to what dentists use to cast15 teeth.(Don't worry—they poke16 out breathing holes!) When the mold is dry, it's carefully peeled off17. “It leaves a perfect impression of his face, right down to his pores18,” Elsey says.
Plaster is poured into the mold to make a statue19 of the actor's head. Then the alien's20 features21 are sculpted in clay around the statue, and a mold is produced. Liquid foam latex is poured into the new mold and baked in an oven for three hours. What peels out of the mold is the final mask. It's held in place with a special glue—the same kind that doctors use to close wounds when there's no time for stitches!

Although the Star Wars series began with 1977's Episode IV, the story actually begins with 1999's Episode I. Here's a recap22.
EPISODE IV STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE (1977)
A civil war is raging between the evil Empire and the rebel Republic. Wannabe rebel pilot Luke Skywalker and his two droids23, C-3PO and R2-D2, attempt to rescue24 the kidnapped25 Princess Leia from Darth Vader. Skywalker finds help in Han Solo, the Wookiee Chewbacca, and an old Jedi knight named Obi-Wan Kenobi.
EPISODE V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980)
Luke begins his Jedi knight training with a weird26 creature named Yoda. Meanwhile, an old friend of Han's—Lando Calrissian—turns over27 Han, Chewbacca, and Leia to Darth Vader. After losing a lightsaber28 fight with Vader, Luke learns that the evil lord is his father.
EPISODE VI RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983)
Luke rescues Han and Leia from a gigantic lump of lard29 named Jabba the Hutt. After they learn that the Empire is building a deadly Death Star, the gang joins rebel forces on Endor. They're aid ed by cute and cuddly30 creatures called Ewoks for the final battle. (Oh, and Luke finds out Leia is his sister.)
EPISODE I THE PHANTOM31 MENACE (1999)
Flashback32 : Darth Vader is now just a boy named Anakin Skywalker, a slave living on the planet Tatooine. Two Jedi knights Qui-Gon Jinn and his young apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi have fled33 to Tatooine with Queen Padme Amidala of the planet Naboo. The Jedis take Anakin under their wing34 as the Empire grows stronger.
EPISODE II ATTACK OF THE CLONES (2002)
Anakin is now a young man and an apprentice35 Jedi to Obi-Wan. When Padme's life is threatened, Obi-Wan takes off to search for her would-be assassin36 and stumbles37 across an army of clones. Anakin becomes the queen's protector. The two begin to fall in love as civil war38 between the Empire and the Republic gets closer.

Chewbacca and the Wookiees
秋巴卡人和沃基人之出炉
在前两集星球大战电影中消失了的沃基人又在《西斯的复仇》中重返江湖。他们大多数比可爱的秋巴卡人个头更大，而且更坏——他们的行头也正好配合了他们的角色。
穿上手工缝制的沃基人行头之前，每一位演员先得套上肌肉套（见图），肌肉套里装有全套的充满液体的袋子，可以自然地随着演员身上的真肌肉运动。而在肌肉套之下，演员们还穿了“凉爽背心”，一种小型空调系统，可以把冰水打进循环管。“想像一下盛夏之际穿一副笨重的加垫的皮毛行头吧，”艾尔西说，“那个热谁受得了？”
虽然蒂恩·麦顿帮助欧比旺·肯诺比,但是他看上去模样也怪吓人的。他那副吓人的行头是从面具制作开始的。化妆师首先在他的头上抹上一种类似于牙医做牙模的造型材料。（别着急，他们为他挖出了呼吸孔！）等模型干了之后，再小心翼翼地从他头上剥下来。“这样就把他的脸型完全印出来了，连他的汗毛孔都清晰可见。”艾尔西说。
再把石膏倒入模型，把演员的头制成塑像。然后在该塑像上安上用黏土雕刻的外星人五官。于是一副头部模型就算完成了。接下来把液体的泡沫乳胶倒入新模型，再放入一个炉子里烘烤3个钟头，从模型中剥落出来的就是最后的面具了。该面具用一种特殊的胶水粘在演员的头上，就是医生来不及缝针时用来粘合患者伤口的那种胶水。
星战系列电影故事回放
虽然星战电影系列开始于1977年的第4集，其故事实际上始于1999年星战前传第1集。现将以前的故事回放如下。
第4集：星球大战——新的希望（1977）
一场内战正在邪恶帝国和反抗共和国之间进行。万纳比的反抗军飞行员天行者卢克同他的两名机器人C-3PO 和R2-D2试图从达斯·维德手中营救出被他绑架的莱娅公主，天行者得到了汉·索罗、沃基人楚贝卡和绝地武士欧比旺·肯诺比的援助。
第5集：帝国反击战（1980）
卢克开始跟着一位叫尤达的怪物进行绝地武士训练。与此同时，汉·索罗的一位老友兰度·卡尔利西安把汉·索罗、楚贝卡和莱娅交给了达斯·维德。卢克在同维德的光剑战中输掉之后，却得知这个邪恶的勋爵竟然是自己的生父。
第6集：绝地归来（1983）
