1 － I fear neither death nor pain．
Aragorn: You have some skill with a blade.
éowyn: Women of this country learned long ago that those without swords may still die upon them. I fear neither death nor pain.
Aragorn: What do you fear, my lady?
éowyn: A cage. To stay behind bars until uselessness and old age accept them and all chance of valor has gone beyond recall or desire.
Aragorn: You are a daughter of kings, a shieldmaiden of Rohan. I do not think that will be your fate.
2 - Elf Arwen
éowyn: Where is she? The woman who gave you that jewel.
（Aragorn smiles and says nothing． Flashback: Elrond is speaking to Aragorn in Rivendell, before he sets out with the Fellowship．）
Elrond: Our time here is ending. Arwen's time is ending. Let her go. Let her take the ship into the west. Let her bear away her love for you to the Undying Lands. There it will be evergreen.
Aragorn: But never more than a memory.
Elrond: I will not leave my daughter here to die.
Aragorn: She stays because she still has hope.
Elrond: She stays for YOU! She belongs with her people!
（Aragorn and Arwen are together before the Fellowship departs.）
Aragorn: You have a chance for another life. Away from war... grief... despair.
Arwen: Why are you saying this?
Aragorn: I am mortal; you are Elfkind. It was a dream, Arwen, nothing more.
（He takes Arwen＇s hand to return the Evenstar necklace to her.）
Aragorn: This belongs to you.
Arwen: It was a gift. Keep it.
（Scene shifts back to Aragorn and éowyn）
éowyn: My lord?
Aragorn: She is sailing to the Undying Lands, with all that is left of her kin.
3 － Treebeard
（The two hobbits climb higher up onto Treebeard for a better view．）
Treebeard: There was a time when Saruman would walk in my woods. But now he has a mind of metal and wheels. He no longer cares for growing things.
（Pippin and Merry are now on top of Treebeard and they see a massive army moving across the land．）
Pippin: What is it?
Merry: It's Saruman's army! The war has started.
4 － The Desperate Arwen
Elrond: Arwen, it is time. The ships are leaving for Valinor. Go now... before it is too late.
Arwen: I have made my choice.
Elrond: He is not coming back. Why do you linger here when there is no hope?
Arwen: There is still hope.
Elrond: If Aragorn survives this war, you will still be parted. If Sauron is defeated, and Aragorn made king and all that you hope for comes true, you will still have to taste the bitterness of mortality.
（Arwen sees a vision of her future as Elrond speaks． Arwen is weeping.）
Elrond: Whether by the sword or the slow decay of time, Aragorn will die. And there will be no comfort for you. No comfort to ease the pain of his passing. He will come to death, an image of the splendor of the kings of men.
Elrond: But you, my daughter, you will linger on in darkness and in doubt. As nightfall in winter that comes without a star.
Elrond: Arwen... there is nothing for you here, only death. Do I not also have your love?
Arwen: （Crying and moving into her father＇s embrace） You have my love, father.
5 － Saruman has attacked Rohan
（We see Faramir and Gondorian rangers with the captured Frodo and Sam.）
Galadriel (V．O．): Men, who are so easily seduced by its power. The young captain of Gondor has but to extend his hands, take the Ring for his own and the world will fall.
Galadriel (V．O．): For Sauron will have dominion of all life on this Earth, even until the ending of the world. The time of the Elves is over.
（ Faramir is conferring with his man． They unroll a map.）
Faramir: What news?
Madril: Our scouts report Saruman has attacked Rohan. Théoden's people have fled to Helm's Deep. （Points at the map） But we must look to our own borders. Faramir, Orcs are on the move. Sauron is marshalling an army. Easterlings and Southrons are passing through the Black Gate.
Faramir: How many?
Madril: Some thousands. More come every day.
Faramir: Who's covering the river to the north?
Madril: We pulled 500 men at Osgiliath, but if the city is attacked, we won't hold it.
Faramir: （Tracing on the map） Saruman attacks from Isengard. Sauron from Mordor. The fight will come to men on both fronts. Gondor is weak. Sauron will strike us soon. And he will strike hard. He knows now we do not have the strength to repel him.
6 － Then who are you?
（The hobbits Frodo and Sam are brought before Faramir）．
Faramir: My men tell me that you are Orc spies.
Sam: Spies?! Now wait just a minute!
Faramir: Well if you're not spies, then who are you?
（Frodo and Sam remain silent.）
Faramir: Speak.
Frodo: We are hobbits of the Shire. Frodo Baggins is my name and this is Samwise Gamgee.
Faramir: Your bodyguard?
Sam: His gardener.
Faramir: And where is your skulking friend? That gangrel creature. He had an ill-favoured look.
Frodo: There was no other. We set out from Rivendell with seven companions. One we lost in Mória. Two were my kin. A Dwarf there was also, and an Elf. And two men, Aragorn, son of Arathorn, and Boromir of Gondor.
Faramir: You were a friend of Boromir?
Frodo: Yes... for my part.
7 － So．．． this is the answer to all the riddles
（Back in their holding area, Sam and Frodo are alone．）
Sam: We have to get out of here. You go. Go, now! You can do it. Use the Ring, Mr. Frodo. Just this once. Put it on. Disappear.
Frodo: I can't. You were right, Sam. You tried to tell me. I'm sorry. The Ring's taking me Sam. If I put it on, he'll find me. He'll see.
Sam: Mr. Frodo...
（They both stand as Faramir enters.）
Faramir: （Unsheathes his sword） So... this is the answer to all the riddles. Here in the wild I have you. Two halflings and a host of men at my call. The Ring of power within my grasp.
（Faramir lifts the Ring from Frodo＇s neck with the tip of his sword．）
Faramir: A chance for Faramir, captain of Gondor, to show his quality.
Frodo: No!! （He runs away from Faramir）
Sam: Stop it! Leave him alone! Don't you understand? He's got to destroy it. That's where we're going. To Mordor. To the mountain of fire.
8 － War is upon us!
Aragorn: All of Isengard is emptied.
Théoden: How many?
Aragorn: Ten thousand strong at least.
Théoden: Ten thousand?!
Aragorn: It is an army bred for a single purpose to destroy the world of men. They will be here by nightfall.
Théoden: Let them come!
Théoden: （to Gamling） I want every man and strong lad able to bear arms to be ready for battle by nightfall.
Théoden: We will cover the causeway and the gate from above. No army has ever breached the Deeping Wall or set foot inside the Hornburg.
Gimli: This is no rabble of mindless Orcs. These are Uruk-hai. Their armor is thick and their shields broad. Théoden: I have fought many wars, Master Dwarf. I know how to defend my own keep.
Théoden: They will break upon this fortress like water on rock. Saruman's hordes will pillage and burn, we've seen it before. Crops can be resown; homes rebuilt. Within these walls, we will outlast them.
Aragorn: They do not come to destroy Rohan's crops or villages. They come to destroy its people. Down to the last child.
Théoden: What would you have me do? Look at my men. Their courage hangs by a thread. If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end as to be worthy of remembrance.
Aragorn: Send out riders, my lord. You must call for aid.
Théoden: And who will come? Elves? Dwarves? We are not so lucky in our friends as you. The old alliances are dead．
Aragorn: Gondor will answer.
Théoden: Gondor? Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell? Where was Gondor when our enemies closed in around us? Where was Gon...—No, my lord Aragorn, we are alone. （He calls out orders） Get the women and children into the caves.
Gamling: We need more time to lay provision s for a siege, lord—
Théoden: （Cutting him off） There is no time. War is upon us!
Gamling: （to the soldiers） Secure the gate!
1． 我既不怕死，也不怕痛。
阿拉贡：你的剑术倒不错。
伊欧文：本国的妇女们早就懂得了这个道理，那些没有剑的人可能仍然会死于剑下。我既不怕死，也不怕痛。
阿：那你害怕什么呢，我的小姐？
伊：囚笼。呆在铁栏杆后面，直到老而无用，直到呈勇的机会都成为过去，你再也没有勇敢的欲望。
阿：你可真不愧是国王的公主，不愧是罗汗国的女剑侠，我可不认为你的命运将会是这样。
2. 仙女亚文
伊欧文：她在哪里——那个给你珠宝的女人？
（阿拉贡笑而不答。倒叙：艾尔容德在利纹德尔对阿拉贡说话，当时他还没有同护戒团的伙伴们出发。）
艾尔容德：我们在此的时间就要结束了，亚文的时间就要结束了。让她去吧。让她乘坐这条船往西去吧。让她把她对你的爱带往那块永生的乐土吧。那里她的爱将会如树木常青。
阿：可是那最多只是一种回忆。
艾：我决不会把我女儿留在这儿送死。
阿：她要留下是因为她有希望。
艾：她是为你而留下的！她属于她的人民！
（护戒团出发前阿拉贡和亚文在一起。）
阿拉贡：你有机会过另外一种生活，远离战争……悲伤……绝望。
亚文：你为什么要说这些？
阿拉贡：我是凡人，你却是仙人。那只是一个梦，亚文，别的什么也不是。
（他拉住亚文的手，把长庚星项链还给她。）
阿拉贡：它是属于你的。
亚文：这是送给你的礼物，留下它吧。
（场景闪回，阿拉贡同伊欧文在一起。）
伊：我的殿下？
阿：她正同她那些幸存的同胞们乘船驶往永生国。
3． 树胡子
（两个小矮人爬上树胡子，以便望得更远。）
树胡子：从前萨鲁曼常在我的林子里散步。可是现在他一心只想着兵器和战车，再也不关心生长的东西了。
（皮聘和梅里现在已经爬上树胡子的树顶，他们看见一支大军从远处浩浩荡荡地走过。）
皮聘：那是什么？
梅里：他们是萨鲁曼的军队。战争已经开始了。
4． 绝望的亚文
艾尔容德：亚文，时间到了，船队即将启航，前往瓦利诺。现在就动身吧……不然就来不及了。
亚文：我已经作出了抉择。
艾：他不会回来了，你为什么还要在这儿毫无希望地逗留？
文：还有希望。
艾：即使阿拉贡能活过这一场战争，你们将来也还是会分离。即使索伦被打败，阿拉贡当上国王，你所期望的一切都实现了，你也仍将品尝死亡的痛苦。
（当艾说这些时，亚文仿佛看见了自己未来将要发生的一切。亚文哭了。）
艾：阿拉贡要么被剑刺死，要么时间会慢慢夺去他的生命，无论如何他终有一死。你没有安慰。任何安慰都减轻不了他的逝去给你造成的痛苦。他终究会死，成为人类君王的一个光辉形象。
艾：可是你，我的女儿，你将在黑暗和怀疑中苟活，这就像没有星辰的冬夜。
艾：亚文……你在这儿什么也得不到，只有死亡。难道我也得不到你的爱吗？
文：（哭着投入她父亲的怀抱）您已经得到了我的爱，父亲。
5． 萨鲁曼攻击罗汗国
（我们看见法拉米尔和一些恭多尔骑兵押着他们俘获的弗洛多和山姆）
加拉德利（画外音）：人类多么容易被自己的权力诱惑啊。那么年轻的恭多尔首领只要伸出手去，夺得魔戒，整个世界就会毁灭。
加：（画外音）索伦将统治这个世界上所有的生灵，直到世界的未日，小精灵的时代一去不复返了。
（法拉米尔和他的同伴们在谈话，他们展开一张地图。）
法：有何消息？
马德里尔：我们的侦探报告说萨鲁曼攻击了罗汗国。西奥多国王的臣民都逃到了荷尔姆狄普。（指着地图）可是我们必须留心自己的边界。法拉米尔，奥克人已经行动，索伦统帅着一支军队。东夷人和南蛮人已经过了黑城门。
法：有多少人？
马：有好几千人。每天还有更多的人到来。
法：谁在守护通往北方的河？
马：我们派了五百人驻守奥斯吉利亚斯，可是如果该城受到攻击，我们将放弃它。
法：（继续看着地图）萨鲁曼将从艾森加德进攻，索伦从莫多尔进犯。他们将从两边同时迎敌。恭多尔很弱小。索伦很快就会转而攻击我们。他会痛击我们。他知道我们现在还没有实力抗击他。
6． 那你们是谁？
（小矮人山姆和弗洛多被带到法拉米尔面前。）
法：我手下告诉我你们是奥克人的间谍。
山：间谍？！你等等！
法：如果不是间谍，那你们是谁？（弗洛多与山姆不语)
法：说话呀！
弗：我们是郡里的小矮人。我叫弗洛多·巴金斯，他叫山姆怀斯·甘姆基。
法：他是你的保镖？
山：他的园丁。
法：还有你们的那个鬼鬼祟祟的朋友呢——那个身上长满坏疽的家伙？他的模样可真难看。
弗：就我们俩。我们同七个伙伴一起从利纹德尔出发。有一个伙伴我们在莫里亚失去了。有两个是我的同胞。有一个小矮人，还有一个小精灵，当然还有两个人，阿拉桑的儿子阿拉贡，还有恭多尔的波罗米尔。
法：你是波罗米尔的朋友？
7． 原来这就是谜底
（回到他们被囚禁的地方，山姆和弗洛多单独在一起）
山姆：我们得逃离这儿。你走吧，走吧，现在！你能做到。快用魔戒，弗洛多先生。就用这一次。戴上它，隐身吧。
弗洛多：我做不到。你原来说得对，山姆——你原来苦口婆心告诉我的那些话。我很抱歉。魔戒正控制着我，山姆。如果我戴上它，他就会找到我，他会看见的。
山姆：弗洛多先生……
（他们站在那儿，这时法拉米尔走了进来。）
法拉米尔：（抽出他的宝剑）原来……这就是所有的谜底。在这荒天野地里我捉住了你们。两个小矮人和一帮男人听命于我，法力的魔戒也在我的控制之中。
（法拉米尔用剑尖将指环从弗洛多的脖子上挑起来。）
法拉米尔：这可是恭多尔的首领法拉米尔显示他英雄本色的一次机会。
弗洛多；不！（他逃离法拉米尔）
山姆：住手！别碰他！难道你不明白吗？他必须毁掉这个魔戒。这就是我们要去的地方，去莫尔多，去火之山。
8． 战祸已经临头了。
阿拉贡：艾森加德已经倾巢而出。
西奥登：有多少人？
阿拉贡：至少有一万人。
西：一万人？
阿：这是一支为了惟一的目的造就出来的军队：毁灭人类世界。他们天黑时就会抵达这里。
西：让他们来吧！
西：（对加姆林说）：我要每一个男人和所有拿得动武器的强壮青少年在天黑前作好战斗准备。
西：我们将从上边保护堤道和城门。还从未有任何军队攻破过“深墙厚壁”，或者踏入过霍恩堡城。
吉姆利：这些人可不是来自奥克国的愚蠢的乌合之众，他们是乌鲁克海人，他们有厚甲宽盾的保护。
西：我身经百战，侏儒师傅，我知道怎样保卫自己的生计。
西：他们想攻这座城堡，定然一攻即败，就像以水击石。萨鲁曼的游牧部落会抢劫和烧杀，这些我们过去见识过。庄稼可以再播种，家园也可以重建，有这些城墙的保护，我们将战胜他们。
阿：他们可不是来破坏罗汗国的庄稼或者村子的，他们要来屠杀这里的人民，杀尽最后一个孩子。
西：你想让我怎么做？看看我的这些士卒吧，他们个个勇猛无比，如箭在弦。如果这就是我们的最后归宿，那么我也要让大家死得轰轰烈烈，值得后人缅怀。
阿：快派骑兵出城吧，殿下，你必须去求援。
西：可是有谁会来增援呢？小精灵吗？小矮人吗？我们可没有你那么幸运，有那么多朋友相助。昔日的盟友们都不在了。
阿：恭多尔会答应你的请求的。
西：恭多尔？韦斯福德失守的时候恭多尔在哪里？我们的敌人围攻我们的时候恭多尔又在哪里？在哪儿呢……——不，我的阿拉贡殿下，我们是孤立无援的。（他发布命令）把妇女和儿童藏进洞穴中去吧。
加姆林：我们需要更多的时间为守城准备补给物品，殿下——
西：（打断他）没有时间了，战祸已经临头了。
加：（对士兵们）守住城门！
