If you ask Daniel Radcliffe to pick a special moment from the last year of his life, you will find it almost impossible. “Oh wow, that's really difficult,” he says with a smile. “Because there have been so many.” It's understandable, really, because the past twelve months have been a whirlwind of “really cool” memories for this young man, who turned 14 in July, 2002.
It would perhaps be the same for most youngsters. But then, there's Daniel's other world; the one which provides him with the kind of experiences that he confesses he finds hard to list in order of preference because they all come crowding back at once. Playing Harry Potter, first in the massive box office hit “The Philosopher's Stone,” and then in the next installment “The Chamber of Secrets,” has obviously changed his life. But perhaps not in the way that you would expect.
“There have been so many things, so many memories that at times it's hard to recall them all,” says Daniel. “But I guess one of the best ones was the London premier for 'The Philosophers Stone.' It was just amazing, one of the best nights of my life.
“But I've had such a great time doing 'The Chamber of Secrets.' I love doing the stunt work. I love meeting new people and being part of the team, with Rupert (Grint), Emma (Watson) and Chris (Columbus, director) and everyone. It's been great.”
Daniel has changed. He is taller, his voice is deeper and his frame is filling out as he begins his teenage years, and if you ask Chris, or indeed producer David Heyman, they will tell you how he has matured as an actor, too. But essentially, he's remained the same.
The youngster before us today, on the “Harry Potter” set at Leavesden Studios, dressed in his Hogwart's uniform, is polite, friendly, open and interested, and that's exactly how he was when this incredible adventure started for him some two years ago.
Daniel was born in London where his father, Alan, worked as an agent and his mother, Marcia, as a casting director, and both have been an essential guiding influence on their only child.
