It was first built to keep out the barbarians and act as a military fortress. It is indeed a clever idea and has worked effectively to protect the Chinese people for thousands of years. The thing is a miracle. How is it possible for men with neither advanced machinery nor lifters to build such a long war with such heavy, big bricks? How is it possible that this ancient wall has survived the erosions of time to this day? Today, when I think of the Great Wall, I feel proud of my country and my people from the bottom of my heart.
