I went to Yuki’s house this afternoon. I hear a cheep, cheep sound. At first, I thought it was the birds outside the house. But then, Yuki’s grandmother said, “Yuki, why don’t you let Jenny see you chicks?”
“Chicks?” I thought to myself. “Baby chickens? Wow!”
I followed Yuki into her room, and she showed me the chicks. One is pink and the other is green. And the chicks keep cheeping.
The chicks are in a square plastic basket. There is a piece of newspaper at the bottom of the plastic basket. The chicks runs around in the plastic basket. Looks like they are exercising.
Yuki carefully pick one chick up from the basket. The chick shake its legs and cheep more faster. Maybe the chick is afraid that it will fall. But not when Yuki put another hand down the chick. It stood very still on Yuki’s hand. Yuki touched it gently, and of course, she had to be careful or the chick will fall down into the basket.
“Did the chicks bite people?” I asked Yuki.
“No, not at all,” said Yuki giggling.
So I put my finger down the basket. The chicks poke my finger, but since its beak isn’t sharp, so instead of hurting me, it tickles me.
“He, he, he, that tickles,” I let my finger up, giggling.
Then, I touch one of the chick’s feathers. They are very furry, furry as my sweater, and they are soft, too. Soft like, well…Like a bunch of cotton.
“Gee,” I said, “I wish I can have two chicks like these. But they are both yellow.”
I also want to let a chick be up my hand, so I can know how it feels like. But I’m not brave enough to put my hand down there and catch one.
When the green chick is up in Yuki’s hand, I was surprised. Even the chick’s foot is green.
“Gee,” I said. “I had never seen that kind of chick before.”
But it looks like that Yuki is just keeping an eye on her chicks. She said to me, “I like them, my grandmother just bought me these today.”
I think it is enough time in Yuki’s house. I want to go downstairs.
“Let’s play downstairs, you don’t want to miss today’s downstairs games,” I said to Yuki.
“OK,then,”Yuki said.“Come on,let’s go down stairs!”
I think Yuki’s chicks are really interesting. I like them and they are very cute, too!
