Today is Tree Planting Day. This is Maria’s first ever Tree Planting Day at Sea Bay Elementary School. Maria is very excited.
“I want to plant trees. I like trees so much that I can’t decide which one to choose. I’ll like an apple tree, or an orange tree, or even an oak tree, I know, a pine tree. But I think a tree house tree is better. That’s it! I will have a tree house tree,” Maria says.
Maria goes to school at 8:10, she go to school early today is because that her teacher, Miss White says that they will buy a baby tree at the tree farm. And they must plant it around 9:10.
“I know what tree I will choose, I will choose a tree house tree. Because that I can have a tree house on that tree. We can play on it. But maybe we can’t, but our children can,” says Maria to herself.
“Maria, wait for me!” Marcia shouts. Marcia is Maria’s cousin. And they are in the same class.
“Hi Maria!” shouts Morton, when he pass by Maria and Marcia.
“Morton, can we get a ride on your bike, too?” shouts Maria.
“Of course,” smiles Morton. “Come on.”
“I don’t think I can fit all of us,” says Maria and Marcia. “There is only place for you.
“Oh, no, no, no. I have buttons on my bike. I will press the button for three.” Morton says. And he did.
“Wow! Come on, or we are going to be late!” Maria cries to Marcia.
For a few minutes, they get to school.
They run quickly to the classroom. And sit down on their seats. Maria love where she sit, in the fourth row between Morton and Marcia.
But, haven’t Miss White come yet. The bell is ringing!
Then, Miss Stevenson, the music teacher walks into the classroom. “Sorry, children. Miss White is ill today. So I will bring you to Gerri Richardson’s Tree Farm to buy trees for you.”
“At least we get to go then,” says Maria to Marcia.
At the Tree Farm. Everyone choose the tree they wanted. And they all happy back to school.
They plant their trees. Give it some water. And… “Hey, everyone, look! The sunshine and water make my tree grow a teeny weeny bit!” cries Maria and Marcia. “So have we!” shouts the other children. Everyone smiles.
When Maria gets back, she finishes her homework. Then, she read the book about tree house trees she borrowed from the library. It was really fun. She imagine about when her tree grow up. It will be a big part of the excitement for her children. And they are going to like the tree house tree.
When she read half of the book. She looks at the clock. It is four thirty. Her favourite cartoon about tree houses are on. Quickly, she runs to the living room and turn on TV.
When it is dinner time. Maria helps Jim and Kate make delicious tree houses shape cookies. Lots of them. Maria even use the potato to make a small ladder! Of course, she was still thinking about her tree house tree. She loved it so much.
It is night time now. It had already pass Maria’s bedtime. Maria yawns for the last time this night, and sleep deeply on her little bed. She was dreaming about something, it really is about something. She was dreaming a sweet dream. So sweet she is smiling when she sleeps. Her dream is: The tree house tree she has planted grows up, she makes a big tree house and she has four children. Her four children climb from the ladder to the tree house. They like their tree house very much. They almost do anything in the tree house! And their happy laughter are so sweet, so happy, and so dreamy.
That was a so, so happy day for Maria. It was the best Tree Planting Day ever.
