All right. I am sure you've now guessed who she is. Yes, she is Justine Henin-Hardenne.
Justine started playing tennis when she was 5 years old since everyone in the family did. It was her father who first taught Justine how to play.
Her biggest highlight9 as a junior was winning the junior French Open championships10 as a black horse in the 1997 event.
In 1997, she became the youngest ever winner of the Belgium National Championships beating Dominique Van Roost who was in the top 40 at the time. Justine was only 15 years old at that time. That year, she was even named Belgium's most popular tennis personality11!
In 1999, she turned into a professional tennis player and played a lot of important games, including U.S. Open, Australian Open, French Open, German Open, WTA12 Tour Championships, to name just a few. She made a lot of important achievements and began to establish gradually her status as a great tennis player.
But, life has already been tough13 on the quiet, unassuming14 Henin, whose mother, Francoise, died of cancer when she was 12 years old. “When my mum died, eight years ago, I thought tennis was over,” she said. “I wasn't finding any more reason to play. For two or three years I wasn't feeling happy and there seemed no point in15 competing. Then I thought that my mum wouldn't want to see me like this. Even now, I think about her constantly, especially when on court or in tough situations. I would give back all the trophies16 and all the money to have my mum in my life right now.”
At 1.67 metres and weighing 57 kg, Henin cannot match the raw power of a Venus Williams but she has her own advantage.  “You don't have to be big to play good tennis,” she said. “Look at Hingis. She's not that tall and she's the No. 1   in the world.” A true all-rounder17, Henin can play aggressively18 from the baseline19 but is also useful at the net and has a delicate20 touch for dropshots21 while her returns can be devastating22.
Once when she talked about her best characteristic23, she said, “I'm very quick on the court, so I can run all over the court right now. I think I'm a complete24 player. I don't have any bad part in my game. That's good.” She can also play on different types of court. She said, “I like all surfaces but I guess you can say clay25 is my favorite because I was raised on it.”
This year she overtook26 her countrywoman27 Kim Clijsters and became world number one for the first time in her career.
“All my life I have dreamed about winning Grand Slams28 and  being  No. 1  in the world.  This is a very special day for me and one I will remember forever,” said Henin-Hardenne.
Praise from Clijsters quickly followed, “I'm happy for her.  I've always said that if the top ranking had to change, then it should go to another Belgian.  She's had a great year and she's probably the most improved player on the Tour this season.” But people know Justine and Kim are not good friends.
When asked about her relationship with Clijsters, Henin said, “I think that we, both of us, are playing tennis, so we need a good relationship. We have been friends for a long time. I think that Kim was really disappointed that she lost in San Diego, and she came in press29 just five minutes after the end of the match. So probably she has some regrets about what she said. I think it was a little bit stupid. But it's like that. I mean, I forgot it. It's in the past. I mean, I understand that sometimes it's hard to lose, but she has to accept that.”
In August, 2003, Henin-Hardenne and Clijsters met in the final of a tournament30 in San Diego. Henin-Hardenne lost the first set31, then called medical time out so she could treat a blister32 on her foot. The flow of the game changed, and she took the next two sets. “It's not the first time it's happened, so I'm getting kind of used to it,” Clijsters said after the match. “She has probably done that in every match I've ever played against her. It's a matter of knowing whether she's doing it for an injury or another reason.”
Henin is young and married. This is very unusual for a tennis player. She thinks marriage is very important to her. She said, “I achieved something in my private life, you know, with my husband. It was very important for myself to get married. A lot of things changed in my life. It's great to have a family. It gives me a lot of confidence. I am feeling more secure. I know that after the tennis, I'll have something and that's very important. ”
