“It's funny to me to look back on3 my teen years because I just turned 21 this year. I don't think you ever hear me complain about what I didn't get to do, because I've grown up being a very spiritual person and I've always felt in my heart that people were born to do something. I felt like destiny or fate will get you halfway to where you want to go in life, but the other half is you going out there to get it.
I've spent my whole life doing music and I don't think it's for no reason. All of us were born to do this. Everything that happened to us has led up to this, and people make sacrifices all the time to do what they love to do.”
This is what Justin Timberlake, the lead singer of 'Nsync, reveals his divine4 destiny to us. Since the establishment of the famous boy band, Justin has gone on well with the other members. He helped make 'Nsync one of the biggest boy bands on the planet, selling over 28 million albums in the US alone. And now he's on his own5, serenading6 the music history with his first solo7 album, Justified. The music is a lush8 sonic9 arrangement of soul vocals and hip-hop and R&B beats. “He's one of the most talented young musical artists we have. Face to Face with Justin
The following is a brief interview with Justin． He talks about the breakup, the rumors－and making the album of his life．
Q: How are you feeling (about the ending of relationship with Britney) now—any regrets?
A: No. I don't regret anything. Single life is something you have to get used to. I've been asked the question so many times, “How is it going to feel to see her with somebody else?” It's going to hurt.
Q: Are you two friends now?
A: Yeah, there is no way we wouldn't be. Her family has been part of my family.
Q: Why go solo after so much success with 'Nsync?
A: I was in the mood13 to do my own thing. The group is not breaking up, but we had been running for seven years straight14. It was time to chill out15. And I had so much music inside of me that was so different, it wouldn't be right for anyone else.
Q: What was it like to record without four other guys?
A: In 'Nsync you don't do records that somebody doesn't sing on. But with this record I did whatever came to mind. If my voice cracked16 a little bit, it's character. Leave it on the record. It's totally organic17 Q: What is your favourite track off Justified?
A: “Nothing Else.” It's a simple love story, expressing to this ordinary girl how you think she's from another planet.
Q: So you're a hopeless romantic?
A: Yeah. I haven't found this girl I keep writing about. I think someday, I really will meet my angel. She doesn't have a distinct18 face, just a presence. She just glows. I'm looking for perfection. Perfection to me is somebody who is completely comfortable with all their imperfections. If I met this girl, will I still be inspired to write these songs?
Q: Nick Carter from Backstreet Boys has a rock album coming out. Any competitive feelings?
A: Oh, totally! [laughing] I'm kidding. I don't feel competition. I heard [Nick's single] “Help Me”, and I think it's a great song. My record is something different—I wanted to change what people were listening to. If you were 16 or 17 when 'Nsync came out, you are probably 21 or 22 now. I know the kids are going to dig [my music], because it's a new sound.
Q: 'Nsync has always had a special relationship with its fans. But recently, a girl was killed when an allegedly19 drunk driver deliberately backed into her, while she was waiting for you at an LA radio station. How do you deal with news like that?
A: It weighs heavy on my heart. I said so many prayers for her family. My heart goes out to20 her parents, because I don't know what my mother would do.
Q: Lately there's been a lot of rumors that you are dating Alyssa Milano. Any truth to it?
A: She's a friend. I'm not going to talk about it. I want to get to know that person before the whole world tries to get to know us. If they see me with someone else, they are going to think “playboy”. I have always been a one-woman type of guy. I'm married to this album, how's that?
Q: Sounds like she's been a good friend so far.
A: Hasn't hurt me yet!
