We always say that human beings are very tiny in front of nature. It seems that we can do nothing when disasters come. But many unforgettable facts have proved that our love can protect us against natural disasters and help us live through difficulties.
Just a few months ago, almost every inch of the ground was covered with much more snow than we had expected. Normally people think winter isn’t called winter without any snow. An old saying says, “A snowy year, a rich year.” So we felt happy about its coming at that time. However, we hadn’t realized that a terrible snowstorm was at hand until it came. The snow lasted about 14 days and the temperature was far below zero in those days. The weather forecast warned that we’d better prepare for a heavy snowstorm. But it came faster than we had imagined. This heavy snow, which attacked all over the country, quickly blocked the railways. Not only the railways, but also many highways were blocked. The scheduled flights were delayed even cancelled because of the bad weather. Spring Festival was just around the corner and a lot of people wanted to go back home. But there was no transportation.
What made matters worse was that the storm destroyed some of the electric facilities in certain rural districts of southern China. The local people had no electricity for quite a long time.
Meanwhile, the snow caused other problems. Some vegetable died in the cold, so its prices rose suddenly. Housewives were in a panic(恐慌,惊惶). All of us were eager to know when the snow would stop.
To avoid turbulence(混乱), the government took measures immediately and set about helping those people who were waiting to return home for Spring Festival. Soldiers were sent to rural areas to rebuild the electric system. The passengers at railway stations were arranged to stay in hotels. Meanwhile, hot water, clothes and food were provided to the drivers whose cars were blocked on the icy roads. More and more people joined the soldiers and police to help clean the roads and provide life necessities. The prices were under control finally.
We always believe that we can get through any trouble if we stick together. Thanks to the snowstorm, we now realize that love is all around us. Though people can’t defeat nature sometimes, love between people can warm our hearts and give us enough courage to overcome any difficulties. Though the passengers waiting for flights or trains were unable to get in touch with their families during the snowstorms, their families knew they were taken good care of. Love connected the unfamiliar people together. Love is our common language. Love is everywhere.
